Coupons have taken on new importance — The Promotion Marketing Association now reports that 97 percent of the people who do the majority of the shopping for their households use coupons at supermarkets.
To save money, many women (68 percent) are willing to switch brands of over-the-counter medications, and 67 percent are willing to switch brands of milk or eggs, according to a recent poll conducted by ShopSmart, the shopping magazine published by Consumer Reports.
But only 29 percent say they would change their brand of pet food. Women are also reluctant to switch cosmetics (30 percent say they’d switch), personal care items (48 percent) and toilet paper (49 percent).

A Goldman Sachs analyst said Friday packaged-food companies boosted their revenues in November due to price increases.
Analyst Judy Hong said in a note to investors that according to data from research firm ACNielsen for the four weeks ended Nov. 29, dollar sales – or the dollars that came from sales – grew about 5 percent. In the previous four-week period, dollar sales rose 4 percent.
